About the builder

Thank you for visiting Tavis Guitars. My name is Gary Tavis and I live in a small rural town in Northern California. After a great career in the high tech world I was able to retire a little early and pursue this wonderful life as a Luthier. I’ve been building custom guitars and Ukuleles since 2016.

Pukiki Ukulele, was started as a tribute to my great grandfather who immigrated from the Azores to Hawaii in the late 1800’s. It was these Portuguese immigrants that introduced the instrument now called a ukulele to the Hawaiian people. These Portuguese Americans were called “Pukiki” by the Hawaiians.
